The role of the wine glass as a product is to carry the poured wine to the mouth. We perceive the material and form of the wineglass mainly through sight and touch. However, by tracing the edge of the wine glass with a finger moistened with water and making a strange sound, the familiar glass is created as something completely different. The wineglass becomes like a musical instrument or sculpture that plays beautiful sounds, despite the fact that there has been no change in material or form. In this way, an object that is an extension of the everyday is suddenly discovered in a new way, with a different perception, and becomes attractive in a different way. The sound of the wineglass, detached from its original use as a product and found to have pure sound value, encourages the listener to “creative listening”, to weave his or her own music. By reconstructing the wineglass as a sculpture, I have given it a new aural experience and created it as an acoustic sculpture that allows the listener to discover further creative possibilities for sound.
